I am sure Amazon was really worried about getting yet another stinker on Thursday Night Football. Through the 1st quarter I think all of us were thinking it was going to be a snooze fest. Luckily the game ended up turning around in the second and was actually a fun watch. Time to look back on my thought pregame.
Hurts will bounce back… kinda of
Result: Kinda right
Hurts exceed my expectations for him in this game. It started out rough, but with the help of a strong run game Hurts was able to bounce back nicely. I thought low end QB 1 numbers but you got top 5 QB numbers most weeks from this matchup.
Mattison is a fade
Result: Correct!
Being right feels nice, but for Mattison owners this one had to hurt. Through 2 weeks it doesn’t look like the Vikings have a replacement for Cook. Mattison can’t be trusted by fantasy owners. He isn’t on the cut list yet but if you have other RBs it won’t be a bad option to bench him for now.
Jefferson could struggle
Result: Kinda in the beginning but yeah wrong on this one
Jefferson’s night started out rough, through 2 quarters this felt really good prediction. Then the second half hit and Cousins realized that JJ is by far his best option so who cares if he is covered throw him the ball. Jefferson had a great night at the end and what we care about is the results.
Cousins will throw 2 INTs
Result: Incorrect… damn
Cousins did not look good for the first half of the game and could have thrown 4 picks, but if they aren’t caught it doesn’t matter. Sly had at least 1 go through his hands. However, when you’re wrong you're wrong.
The TEs will be the Stars
Result: Half Right
Hockenson was amazing and rewarded his fantasy owners with a plus 25 performance. Goedert on the other hand was involved but didn’t do much with the touches. 6 recs for 22 yards. I like the volume, not the result.
You will play Smith and pray, Brown is a must start
Result: Good call on Smith, not so good on Brown
Smith had a great game getting behind the defense multiple times. Hurts best 2 passes of the night went to Smith. Brown was quiet for what you hoped was a weekly WR1. Considering the score of the game you would have expected more.
Fade Addison, Sleeper in Osborn
Result: Wrong on Addison boy was I wrong, right on Osborn
Addison won’t score a TD weekly but it sure does help his fantasy upside. Addison was wide buck naked open for his score too. If he can keep this up he will make me look like a fool for doubting him. Osborn could have had a bigger night dropping 2 balls that went right through his hands, but you will take 10 points for a sleeper any day of the week.
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the Eagles backfield
Result: It was Swift you dummy
Penny was a complete nonfactor in Week 2 rushing 3 times. Scott got only 5. It was Swift's night and he looked great. The Eagles saw that the Vikings could not stop the run so they said let’s hitt’em where it Hurts (Ha!). Swift has 28 carries and a career night. He earned a bigger role in the Eagles offense for sure.
Winner pick: Vikings - Incorrect
After the Eagles did nothing with the first 2 turnovers of the night you would have thought the Vikings would have won that game. The Eagles looked horrible through the 1st quarter and a bit better in the second, then they turned on the gas in the 3rd and 4th. Kirko looked lost through the first 2 quarters and figured it out a bit too late. The score of 34 - 28 doesn’t really show how that game unfolded. The Eagles were in control for the majority of the game.
Overall Results: More half rights than full rights
The first quarter gave me hope that I would be more right than wrong. As the game progressed I was happy to see I was wrong. The game was much better than I expected. We didn’t learn as much as I would hope from this matchup due to the Vikings miscues and that makes me wonder who the Vikings actually are. Still, the Eagles played a great game and improved to 2 - 0.
